This was something not ever on my radar, but they had everything Google or Microsoft had and actually so much more. At that time, Zoho was primarily known as a business solution provider for the full suite, though they did have a simple and easy email hosting solution.
Discovering Zoho: A Hidden Gem
I decided to start à la carte with Zoho and signed up for their $1 a month email to test drive it. The setup was somewhat typical of setting up domain email hosting anywhere, so that was not a problem. The Zoho email platform turned out to be rock solid. The spam filters and automatic sorting are as good or better than Google’s, and there were no Google spam and advertisements. This was exactly what I was looking for in an email service.
The initial experience was so positive that I chose to explore more of what Zoho had to offer. Encouraged by this success, I decided to add on the cloud storage and office suite products. Zoho Docs, their cloud storage solution, seamlessly integrated with Zoho Writer, their word processing tool. I now have countless cloud documents written directly in Zoho Writer, and they sync effortlessly to my cloud storage. This integration meant that I could access my documents from anywhere, whether through the mail client, the web client, or the desktop app for Writer.
Expanding My Toolset with Zoho
The more I used Zoho, the more I discovered its depth and flexibility. One of the standout features for me has been Zoho Vault, their password manager. However, there’s a significant con: there’s no easy method to transfer your domain from Zoho to Zillum. This has been a point of frustration for many users, including myself. I’m still considering how to handle this transition, possibly starting Zillum with a new domain and then transferring everything over.
Notebook Sharing Limitations
Notebook has sharing features, but without the pro package, I can’t share notes with my wife. This feature is part of the Zillum family package, which adds to my desire to switch over. It’s a minor inconvenience but worth noting.
Thoughts on Cons
Despite these few cons, my experience with Zoho has been overwhelmingly positive. The tools are robust, reliable, and seamlessly integrated, making my daily tasks easier and more efficient.
